We were only in Denver for a full day and a half but that was enough for this hungry vegan couple to find a few awesome choices around town! Here is my top 5 places to check out if you are ever in the Denver area and want to catch a vegan bite to eat!
This place is a no frills – get straight to the point – kinda place. It’s a small cafe-style juice bar located inside of Denver’s 16th street mall in Independence Plaza. I don’t even know how we stumbled upon this little gem – but I’m so glad that we did. The service was quick and friendly. Probably not somewhere you would bring a first date on a Friday night but definitely perfect for a fast bite on your lunch break or, if you’re like us, trying to get to Coors Field on time before missing our 2nd attempt at doing a backstage tour of Coors Field. Although not completely vegan – there are enough vegan options to choose from. Offering a wide list of Dairy-Free smoothies, Fresh Fruit Juices, and Vegan wraps such as The Greek Wrap, Garden Vegetarian Wrap, and the Mediterranean wrap (which can be made vegan if you hold the feta and Tzatziki sauce). Oh and don’t forget your freshly-made-to-order wheat-grass shot for energy to carry you for the rest of the day while you’re touring around Denver!
Located right on 16th street, this is another perfect place for a vegan bite. Again, not fully vegan (which is great if you are with someone who is not into this lifestyle!), but again plenty of vegan options to choose from . Known mainly for their salads, they also offer veggie paninis, fresh juices, organic vegan soups and several flavors of hummus and pita to choose from! Just like it’s name, Mad Greens gives off a feeling of green living with a touch of modern. With indoor and outdoor seating, it is a perfect hip place with great feels all around! Plus, Mad Greens is a company dedicated to partnering up with the local community to complete projects that will benefit the community. We definitely enjoyed our quick lunch here before heading to Denver’s Capitol.
All I can say about this place is – AWESOME! This place is a COMPLETELY vegan bakery – I’m talking about donuts, cakes, brownies, cinnamon rolls, oh and the tea! I can keep going on and on about this place. Located semi-off the beaten path, it is easy to miss, but keep an eye out for their clever chalkboard they keep at the front door! Beet Box uses mostly organic ingredients, makes everything from scratch, and YES it’s ALL vegan. Not a big place, but whimsically decorated with a few tables and chairs where you can hang around and eat your sweet treats! I loved this super cute place – and made sure we took extra donuts for late night cravings at our hotel.
Vegan Comfort Food – That is their slogan. And boy are they right! Watercourse is a full blown restaurant, open until 10 pm, 7 days a week. Perfect for vegans and non-vegans alike, the food is fresh and delicious. From all-day breakfast, to soups, sandwiches and full-course dinners – everything is vegan and there are plenty of choices to choose from! There might be a waiting time, (due to it’s popularity) especially for dinners on weekends, but no worries – they have a full service bar area to make it worth your while. Oh and if you have a group of 5 or more, you have the option to make a reservation beforehand!
CITY O CITY
Another great restaurant for vegan food lovers. Although not fully vegan, it has plenty of vegan options and many entrees that can be made vegan – you will see VO designated for “vegan option” available. A large variety of pizzas that can be made vegan – gasp! Lively atmosphere and great ambiance – perfect for a Friday night out. It does get busy and there might be a wait time – so keep that in mind.
